Protecting you
and your mortgage
Your mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial commitments you ever make. Having the right protection in place can help you, your family and your home cope if something unexpected happens.
At Your Mortgage, we’ll get to know your situation, budget and priorities before recommending suitable protection options from a range of insurers. The aim is simple: cover that does what you need it to do, without paying for things you don’t.
Life insurance
Level term life assurance
Level term life insurance pays out a lump sum if you die during the policy term, with the amount of cover staying the same throughout. The benefit is normally paid tax free and premiums are usually fixed for the length of the policy.
Because there’s no investment element and no payout at the end of the term if no claim is made, level term cover can be a straightforward, cost effective way to protect your family or a specific financial need.
Decreasing term life assurance
Decreasing term life insurance is often used to help protect a repayment mortgage. The cover amount reduces over time, broadly in line with the outstanding mortgage balance.
As the amount of cover falls over the term, premiums are generally lower than for equivalent level term policies. This can be a practical option if your main goal is to help ensure the mortgage could be repaid if you died during the term.
Family Income Benefit (FIB)
Family Income Benefit is designed to provide your dependants with a regular income if you die, rather than a single lump sum. If a valid claim is made during the policy term, it usually pays an agreed, tax free monthly or annual amount until the end date of the plan.
This type of cover can help replace lost income and support ongoing living costs such as bills, childcare and everyday spending, making it easier for your family to maintain their lifestyle.
Critical illness cover
Critical illness cover pays a lump sum if you’re diagnosed with one of the specific serious illnesses covered by the policy, such as certain types of cancer, heart attack or stroke, subject to the terms and definitions in the plan.
It can be taken alongside life insurance or on a standalone basis. A payout could help you adapt your home, clear or reduce debts, or simply give you financial breathing space at a difficult time.
Income protection
Income protection is designed to provide a tax free replacement income if you’re unable to work due to accident or illness, including many physical and mental health conditions, depending on the policy terms.
The amount you pay will depend on how much cover you choose, how long it could pay out for and when payments would start after you stop working. Benefits normally stop when you return to work, reach the end of the claim period or the policy ends.
Home insurance
Home insurance helps protect your property and belongings if something goes wrong. Depending on the cover chosen, it can include buildings insurance (for the structure of your home), contents insurance (for your possessions) or both.
Policies can cover risks such as fire, flood, theft and some types of accidental damage, subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions of the insurer.
